Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world. More than 92% of the population live in poverty and are surviving on less than £1.20 a day (The World Bank 2013).
These environmental portraits show a group of strong, empowered Malagasy women who have overcome their troubled backgrounds working together as a cooperative. Day by day they are steadily improving their lives through the income generated by their work.
With the help of the Non-Governmental Organisation ‘Yamuna’, these women have learnt skills, such as farming, handicrafts and sewing, and with these a means of supporting themselves and their families.
